About the ENG1 Medical
Please take a few minutes to read the information below and download the “What to expect at your medical” document, even if you have done many ENG1 medicals before as things do change from time to time. Please pay particular attention to the section on what to wear/bring to help ensure that your medical runs smoothly.
Your medical will take approximately 45 minutes.
Things to note before your medical;
-
Please avoid loud noise for 16 hours before the medical
-
Dental examinations form part of the seafarer examination and so it would be advised to attend your dentist before your medical if you have not been in the last year.
You will need to bring the following with you:
-
Suitable clothing – please note that you will be asked to undress down to your underwear during the examination and may be asked to do an exercise step test if your body mass index is above 30. (see notes below for more information)
-
Discharge book current passport (if you do not have either of these you will need to bring some other form of photo ID such as a photo driving licence);
-
Your previous ENG 1 certificate if this is not your first medical examination (this must be the original, not a copy, and will be retained by the examining doctor as a requirement before you can be issued with a new certificate);
-
Job description if you have one (this can be helpful if there are any issues that may affect your medical fitness to carry out all of your duties);
-
Spectacles or contact lenses, if worn, plus spares. If your employment requires lookout or bridge watchkeeping duties and you wear soft contact lenses, you will need to leave these out for at least 3 hours before your medical.
-
A list of any medication prescribed.
-
Please if possible bring the consent form for examination signed and also the health questionnaire as completely as possible.
Please be prepared to provide a sample of urine for testing on arrival. The receptionist can provide you with a sample pot.
The price of the basic ENG1 medical is £115.00. We will need you to have paid in advance for the medical and can provide a receipt of payment when requested. We are happy to offer a full refund if you cancel within 48 hours of the appointment. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us or e-mail us as above.
